The Eastern and Central European HoReCa coffee market seems to be recovering from the crisis

The situation of the HoReCa coffee market in Central and Eastern Europe, including Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia, has improved significantly since the pandemic, Interconnection Consulting concluded in its study. In 2023, the revenues of manufacturers in the region reached 217.4 million euros, which exceeded the pre-epidemic level of 2019 (206.4 million euros). Although the volume of the CEE gastro coffee market increased by 27.1% in 2022, sales decreased by 1.8% in 2023 to 13,343 tons. Hungary in particular poses a challenge, as the HoReCa coffee market here shrank by 17.0% on a volume basis. Producers' revenues decreased moderately by 2.2% to 24.7 million euros in 2023. The double-digit inflation rate in Hungary led to a decrease in real wages, and people apparently also saved on the luxury of coffee.
