The EU and Mexico will modernize the free trade agreement after 11 years of negotiation.

Mexico City. The European Union represents a market of 450 million potential consumers in agri-food goods, to "take advantage" of this market, federal and European authorities announced the signing of the Modernized Global Agreement (formerly known as the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union [Tlcuem]). The Ambassador of the European Union in Mexico, Francisco André, stressed that after 11 years of negotiation, a reconciliation was reached to modernize this agreement, which will help diversify the country's economic activity. He emphasized that the European Union is the second destination of Mexico's exports and its third commercial partner. Since the first agreement came into force in 2000, trade between Mexico and the European Union has grown more than fourfold over just over 20 years.
