The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) has issued a warning about olives imported from Morocco to Spain that contain high levels of a banned pesticide called chlorpyrifos. The olives were allowed for distribution in Spain on August 18 but were found to have levels of chlorpyrifos exceeding the maximum residue limit. Chlorpyrifos has been restricted in the European Union since 2020 due to its harmful effects on human health, including developmental problems in children and potential cancer risk.
