Dr. Tamim Al-Dawi, Deputy Executive Director of the Food Industries Export Council, confirmed that Egypt continues to strengthen its position as one of the major global powers in the onion sector, supported by competitive production and export capabilities. This was stated during a seminar organized by the Council titled "Opportunities and Potential for Exporting Dried Onions to International Markets," where production and export performance indicators for the sector were reviewed. He said that Egypt ranks fourth globally in dry onion production with a share of 3.2% of global production, as it approaches competing with the United States for third place with a narrow gap. Regarding production, Al-Dawi explained that the total global onion production reached about 114 million tons in 2024, of which 108 million tons were dry onions, representing about 95% of the total.
