The FAO revises upward the global production in 2025/26 to 2,971 million tons

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has revised upwards the estimate for global cereal production in 2025/26 by 10.1 million tonnes (+0.3%) compared to the September forecast, now standing at 2,971 million tonnes. The increase is due to upward revisions in the forecasts for the production of all crops, led by wheat, maize, and rice, according to the FAO's recently published Cereal Supply and Demand Brief. Specifically, global wheat production is estimated to reach 809.7 million tonnes in 2025/26, which represents a 0.6% increase from last month and a 1.3% increase over the production of 2024/25. Most of this month's increase "is related to Australia, where, after a dry start to the season in some parts, favorable rainfall in July and August boosted yield expectations," according to the FAO.
