The Tambov Region Department of Agriculture is pursuing mushroom farming projects to bolster regional agriculture and support the import substitution program, given the dominant import of mushrooms in Russia. The Russian government is taking steps to enhance the industry's competitiveness by cutting production costs and boosting profitability, including a November 2020 resolution to boost domestic mushroom production. Furthermore, a new law classes mushrooms and truffles as agricultural products for tax purposes, leading to 0% income tax for mushroom and oyster mushroom producers. In Tambov region, farmers have received state support for mushroom cultivation projects, producing over 7 tons of mushrooms in 2020 and planning to expand through own compost production, aided by the new tax law.
