Scientists at Ukraine's National University of Bioresources and Nature Management have bred the country's first domestic variety of elderberry, named 'Chorna Ruta', for industrial cultivation. The variety is rich in antioxidants and is valued for its therapeutic properties and as a natural food coloring. The breeders, Volodymyr Mezhenskyi, Lyudmila Mezhenska and Artur Likhanov, have introduced the variety into in vitro culture, enabling the rapid growth of planting material for industrial plantations.
