The first Ukrainian commercial elderberry variety was bred

Scientists of the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine bred the first domestic variety of elderberry for industrial cultivation. This is reported on the NUBiP website. The name of the variety is "Chorna Ruta". The authors of the invention are Volodymyr Mezhenskyi, Lyudmila Mezhenska and Artur Likhanov. As noted, in European countries, black elderberry has been introduced into commercial varietal culture for several decades. "Although the elderberry is a common plant for the flora of Ukraine, "Chorna Ruta" is the first domestic variety, which allows to start its wide cultivation on our territory. Elderberry fruits have a high antioxidant potential due to the content of flavonoids, which is why they are used for treatment and in the system of rational healthy nutrition.
