A recent meeting in Aydın, Turkey, brought together industry experts and stakeholders to discuss the potential impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the strawberry market and explore ways to mitigate any negative effects. The Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters' Association is taking steps to address concerns related to pesticide use in strawberries, a key export earner for Turkey, particularly from the region around Sultanhisar, which is the country's second-largest strawberry production hub. The association is expanding its 'We Know the Pesticides We Use' project and holding educational meetings to ensure compliance with pesticide regulations in the European Union, Russia, and Turkey. The meeting also highlighted the broader challenges faced by the agricultural sector, including the current disruption to strawberry exports to Ukraine and the broader economic implications of the conflict for Turkey's fresh produce exports, which amount to $1.5 billion.
