Economy, Trade, and Business Minister Carlos Cuerpo stated this Thursday that the Government, in light of the rising price of eggs—due to avian flu, among other causes—will "be evaluating and monitoring the situation and the risk, to see what measures are necessary" to adopt. Cuerpo responded thus to the question posed by Deputy Joseba Agirretxea (PNV) during the control session of the Plenary of Congress, regarding "what measures the Spanish Government will adopt to mitigate the rise in the price of eggs due to avian flu." Agirretxea, who also chairs the Agriculture Committee of the Lower House, advocated for a reduction in the VAT for eggs as a measure to contain the price increase for consumers, which in October recorded an interannual increase of 22.5%.
