Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut visited the All-Russian Research Institute of Soybeans in the Amur Region, a leading breeding and seed production center, to discuss ways to increase soybean production volumes. The institute, which has developed over 95 varieties of soybeans, accounts for about 15% of Russia's soybean seed production and over 40% in the Far East. The institute is also working on increasing the resistance of varieties to flooding and waterlogging, and exploring the possibility of using soybeans as a vegetable crop. The federal government has introduced a prohibitive duty on the export of raw soybeans, encouraging processing and the construction of new facilities in the Amur Region.
