In Ukraine, the price of sunflower oil has surged to $815/t for Black Sea port deliveries, driven by increased demand and the rising cost of palm oil, which has led importers to opt for the relatively cheaper sunflower oil. Consequently, the average price for sunflower oil delivered to customers has risen by 2.9% to $880/t. This shift comes as palm oil prices slightly decrease due to reduced tensions in the Middle East and anticipated production boosts post-Ramadan. Meanwhile, soybean oil futures have declined amid poor US exports and an influx of inexpensive South American soybeans. In response to these market dynamics, Egypt is set to double its sunflower oil imports in the 2023/24 period, leveraging its cost-effectiveness and blending capabilities with soybean oil for subsidy programs.
