The Ministry of Agriculture reports a slight increase in fruit, shell, and berry plantations in 2021, totaling 65,497 hectares. Harvested areas saw a 9% increase compared to the previous year, although 11% remained unharvested due to climatic issues. Cherries were the most cultivated fruit at 24%, followed by plums and junipers at 21%. Young, non-fruiting orchards occupied 10.9 thousand hectares, with walnuts being the largest group at 46%. The economic year 2020/2021 saw 51% of new plantations as stone species and 36% as shell species. In total, 226,118 tons of fruit were produced in 2021, marking a 12% increase from 2020, with plums and junipers being the leading fruits. However, there was a decrease in production for raspberries and cherries.
