The State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office has announced a ban on meat products from Taiwan due to concerns about lake use in animal breeding and health risks, as well as epidemics like avian influenza. This has raised concerns among Taiwan's pastry industry, with the Taichung Pastry Business Association's chairman Cai Wancai expressing fear of impact. However, the Taichung City Economic Development Bureau has assured that the ban, aimed at meat products, is unlikely to affect the local pastry industry, which primarily caters to the domestic market.
