The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain is initiating a public consultation process for a draft Royal Decree that aims to set a quality standard for edible vegetable oils, effective from November 29. The initiative seeks to remove restrictions on raw materials for oil production and standardize labeling to provide clear consumer information. This is in line with the ministry's efforts to update food quality regulations, following the approval of a new quality standard for olive and olive pomace oils in 2021. The new standard will permit the production of a variety of edible vegetable oils in Spain, including hazelnut, almond, walnut, and avocado oils, and unrefined edible vegetable oils, subject to public feedback during the consultation period, which ends on December 23.
