Ukraine has introduced a new procedure that allows local seed companies to cultivate and export seeds of varieties that are not registered in Ukraine but are included in the OECD's List of Plant Varieties. This initiative, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, requires entrepreneurs to apply to the Ministry of Agriculture with detailed variety information and consent from the variety's origin country for importation for propagation. Initially, twenty European hybrid corn varieties from the OECD list have been approved, with plans to extend this to more crops. This strategy aims to boost agricultural profitability and stabilize exports in Ukraine, especially in the context of increasing global corn imports and prices.
