The Minister of Agriculture in Castilla y León, Jesús Julio Carnero, has expressed strong support for the hop farming sector, emphasizing its promising future and the potential for growth in the region. During a visit to a hop farm in Gavilanes de Órbigo, he highlighted the sector's modernization efforts and the importance of land consolidation and improved irrigation for its expansion. Carnero also announced significant government aid to boost hop cultivation, addressing the sector's demands for funding to modernize hop drying facilities, introduce new varieties, and integrate new technologies. This aid is part of Royal Decree 284/2019, which establishes the regulatory bases for state aid in the hop sector. In Castilla y León, 51 out of 51 applications for this aid have been approved, totaling 280,593 euros. With hop farming accounting for over 95% of the national cultivated area and producing around 940 tons of hop flowers this year, the Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León is further advancing the sector through the development of high-value applications and business initiatives based on hop waste, showcasing the region's commitment to innovation and sustainability within the hop industry.
