The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in Egypt is working on expanding storage capacities for strategic crops, particularly wheat, through the national silos project. This project includes building 60 new field silos, each with a capacity of 10,000 tons, in various governorates to reduce transportation costs. Some silos in Upper Egypt will have increased storage capacity to 90,000 tons. The ministry also uses the latest global storage technology and is managing 25 silos funded by the UAE. These silos are equipped with safety features and an electronic quantity control system. The company has already automated 22 silos through the use of an inventory measuring device inside each cell.
