Three years after the severe findings of the auditors from the European Commission, who established that Bulgaria was not fulfilling the requirements of the European regulation for food control concerning the business of mussels, shrimp, and others (subtype of shellfish), our country has made progress. This was reported by experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAF) at today's meeting of the National Food Council, which took place at the Ministry of Agriculture. Following the European Commission's report in 2023, which indicated that at that time the state was sharply diverging from European quality requirements for mussels, the two control institutions – the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture and the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency – prepared an action plan.
