Spain's potato cultivation area has seen a decrease in production to 1.94 million tons, the first time falling below two million tons. Despite this, potato exports rose by 11% to 345,885 tons and were valued at 130 million euros, while imports also increased by 20% to 923,465 tons, valued at 309.4 million euros. The Fepex Potato Committee is pushing for greater market transparency and better defense of national products, following complaints of fraudulent sales. The sector is also working to expand the supply of new potatoes from December to March, with efforts in regions like Andalusia and Murcia.
