A new partnership between Ethiopia and the Netherlands, called the Ethiopia–Netherlands Seed/Potato Partnership, has been launched to develop the market segment of plant propagation material in Ethiopia. The partnership, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, aims to support the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture in areas such as plant breeders' rights and new variety registration. The partnership also seeks to involve the Dutch agribusiness community in the partnership's activities and to increase export value of vegetable seeds from Ethiopia to 5 million euros by 2025. The partnership will also address challenges in the seed trade, such as the lack of hard currency for imports and the testing and registration of new varieties.
