The Office of the United States Trade Representative has approved Taiwan's restrictions on imports of U.S. pigs and cattle, but expresses concerns about Taiwan's agricultural policies that it deems not scientifically based. The U.S. is prioritizing the removal of barriers to the import of U.S. pigs and cattle products in Taiwan. Despite Taiwan relaxing some restrictions since the start of the year, it still restricts the import of U.S. cattle over 30 months of age. The issue will be discussed in the "Taiwan-U.S. Trade and Investment Framework Agreement" (TIFA).
