Denmark's animal population saw a significant increase of 6.8%, totaling 11.45 million as of April 2024, according to Statistics Denmark. This increase is partly due to statistical circumstances, including a drop in the pig herd in April 2023 and pigs remaining in barns due to closed slaughterhouses during Easter. The number of slaughter pigs, weaners, and piglets under 20 kilograms also saw increases. The total sow population only increased by 0.2% compared to January, attributed to high piglet prices and improved economic efficiency of sow breeding, indicating a possible end to the decline in Danish pig production in 2024.
