Bolivia is currently experiencing a cold wave that has led to snowfalls and frosts, particularly in the Santa Cruz Valleys, causing significant crop losses. Despite the cold temperatures, the cost of products from the area, such as tomatoes, has not increased. The cold has impacted various crops including potatoes, peas, paprika, and cherimoya. Farmers are using various techniques to minimize the impact of frost, such as potassium fertilization, proper watering, and lighting bonfires. The vice president of the Association of Fruit Growers and Horticulturalists (Asofuth) in Santa Cruz, Emanuel Durán, noted that the cold can spread to other municipalities when it occurs in the high areas.
