Ben Tre province in Vietnam has seen a significant increase in the selling price of coconuts, reaching 130,000 VND a dozen after a period of social distancing to prevent epidemics. This price surge is attributed to the reopening of coconut processing factories and the export of Ben Tre coconuts to over 50 countries, including the US and Japan. The province, which has over 74,000 hectares of coconuts, relies on the crop for the income of about 800,000 people. The shift by businesses towards exporting high-end products has also increased the value of coconuts.
