Fishermen in Tien Giang province, Vietnam, are experiencing record profits from raising red tilapia due to high sale prices, the highest in the past two years. The province, with over 1,600 cages, has seen minimal damage from saltwater intrusion and a total harvest of 10,000-12,000 tons annually. However, the cost of aquatic feed has increased, leading some farmers to switch to other fish species to reduce costs. Despite the current profitability, the high feed costs have made some farmers hesitant to re-stock, especially with the significant cost of feed accounting for a third of the total capital.
