In 2024, the average price of a hectare of arable land in the EU was estimated at 15,224 euros (approximately 18,000 dollars), which represents an increase of 6.1% compared to 2023, when that average value stood at 14,343 euros. Meanwhile, the average annual rental price for arable land and permanent pastures was estimated at 295 euros or about 350 dollars per hectare, which represents an increase of 6.4% compared to 2023 (277 euros). This information comes from the data on agricultural land prices and rentals published this week by Eurostat, the European statistical office. Among the 24 countries with available data, the highest average price per hectare of arable land was recorded in Malta (201,263 euros or the equivalent of almost 240 thousand dollars), the explanation being that land is scarce and it is one of the most densely populated states in the bloc.
