Farmers in the Inle Lake area are experiencing significant losses due to a drastic drop in tomato prices from 2,000-2,500 kyats per ton in July to 300 kyats per ton in August. This is attributed to high tomato production and low purchasing power. The already slim profit margins are further eroded by high planting costs and challenges such as fuel shortages and unstable exchange rates, which have led to increased costs and reduced demand. As a result, farmers are finding it difficult to recover their capital and are struggling to sustain their operations.
