Ukrainian analytical portal Graintrade, citing Oil World, reports that in 2025 the level of sunflower seed processing in the European Union (EC-27) dropped to 7.4 million tons, which represents a decrease of 1.6 million tons compared to 2024 (9.0 million tons) and is the lowest level in nine years. The main reasons for this drastic drop are the reduction in sunflower seed production in the EU, the low activity of agricultural producers in selling the oilseed raw material, and the low margins in sunflower processing, which has forced factories to switch to processing the more profitable canola and rapeseed.
