In 2023, the European Union's pear production fell by 13% to 1.7 million tons, according to the World Apple and Pear Association. This was largely due to a 63% drop in Italy's output because of adverse weather conditions, and a 12% decrease in France. The Netherlands also saw a slight decrease of 3%. However, Belgium, Spain, Germany, and Hungary experienced increases in their harvests, with Hungary's harvest increasing by 33% after a record low in 2022. The producer price of pears in the Budapest Wholesale Market also rose by 22% in 2023.
