The Government of the Region of Murcia has tightened specific protection measures against avian influenza, following the increase in cases detected in wild and domestic birds both in the European Union and in various Spanish autonomous communities in recent weeks. No cases of the disease have been detected in the Region of Murcia so far, according to sources from the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries. The increase in reported cases in other parts of the country, along with the comarcal risk maps prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, makes it advisable to increase the level of biosecurity nationwide and to apply risk mitigation measures against this disease, in application of the precautionary principle, the objective of the activation of Order APA/2442/2006, which establishes specific protection measures in relation to avian influenza.
