From January to May 2021, Spain experienced a 9.47% increase in fruit and vegetable imports, totaling 1,678,355 tonnes and valued at EUR 1,566 million. The majority of these imports were vegetables, with a notable increase in fruit imports, particularly pears and apples. While Spain's imports from the European Union have been decreasing, reaching a 46.7% share, the share from third countries like Morocco has risen to 53.83%. Consumption by Spanish households during the first five months of 2021 was 5,704,902 tons. In May, Spain's exports of fresh fruit and vegetables saw a 5.7% increase, totaling 1,128,636 tonnes and valued at EUR 1,448 million, with notable growth in the export of certain vegetables and a slight increase in fruit exports.
