Brazil, the world's leading coffee producer, is experiencing significant growth in its specialty coffee sector, which now makes up 5% to 10% of all domestic consumption. This growth offers coffee growers the chance to boost their profits, as specialty coffees command a higher market value. The Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA) notes that these coffees are sold at a minimum of 50% more than conventional coffee. The specialty coffee sector also fosters long-term relationships with buyers, providing a level of purchase security for future harvests. The sale of these coffees often involves direct trade, bringing producers closer to consumers, and the products often come from farms with socio-environmental sustainability certifications and/or good agricultural practices.
