The Mekong Delta provinces in Vietnam have cultivated nearly 1.54 million hectares of rice for the Summer-Autumn crop of 2020, with an estimated yield of over 8.71 million tons. Initial estimates suggest that around 2.3-2.5 million tons of commodity rice may be available for export. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is working to maintain productivity and output to meet food security requirements and to ensure food security in natural disasters. The first five months of 2020 saw a significant increase in rice export volume and value compared to the same period in 2019, with the Philippines being the largest rice export market for Vietnam.
