The Mekong Delta provinces in Vietnam have cultivated nearly 1.54 million hectares of rice in the Summer-Autumn crop of 2020, leading to an estimated yield of over 8.71 million tons. Initial estimates suggest that around 2.3-2.5 million tons of rice may be available for export. The localities are prioritizing short-term and high-quality rice varieties, with plans to cultivate 50-60% of high quality seeds and 15-20% of fragrant rice. From May to September, rice export volume reached nearly 2.9 million tons, generating 1.41 billion USD, marking a 5.1% increase in volume and an 18.9% increase in value compared to the same period in 2019. The Philippines is the largest market for Vietnam's rice exports in the first 5 months of 2020.
