The article provides an overview of the Dutch onion industry's recent season and export performance, as shared by Piet van Liere of Flevotrade Dronten. The growing season was marked by extreme dryness followed by rain, resulting in a variety of onion sizes and yields, some of which were severely reduced. The quality of the onions has been compromised by Fusarium and crack buds, among other issues. Despite these challenges, the initial export period saw a notable increase in volume compared to the previous year, with Africa, the Far East, and Brazil showing interest. Despite the expected decrease in overall export volume due to the cultivation issues, there is optimism for the Polish market to provide a supportive lower limit for prices due to its demand for high-quality onions.
