Poland's deputy minister of agriculture, Ryszard Bartosik, has expressed the country's desire to re-evaluate the EU's position on the trade agreement with Mercosur. The agreement, which was reached in June 2019 after nearly 20 years of negotiations, needs to be ratified by member states. However, Poland and other EU countries have expressed concerns about the potential negative impact on EU agriculture, including increased imports of products like sugar, beef, poultry, and bioethanol spirit. Despite the trade turnover between Poland and Mercosur being a mere 0.53% of the total trade turnover in 2021, the government is committed to ensuring that Polish agriculture does not suffer as a result of the agreement.
