2021 was a good year for lime sales in Europe and 2022 is off to a promising start, despite logistical challenges. The year started better than expected with positive prices in January. Last year, Cultivar, a Spanish company, sold 900,000 cartons of limes, mainly from Brazil, and aims to ship 1 million cartons this year. However, logistics issues and new health authority rules are increasing logistics costs and causing delays. 90% of the limes entering Europe come from Brazil, and Cultivar's focus is on importing limes from Brazil.
