Romania has reported sixty outbreaks of the peste des petits ruminants (PPR) virus, with the latest outbreak detected in a Tulcea County farm in late July. The virus has affected farms in Tulcea, Constanta, Timis, and Ialomița counties, impacting 232,927 sheep and goats. In response, the National Administration for Veterinary Sanitation and Food Safety has implemented additional testing for animals and is revising export conditions for small cattle to prevent further spread of the virus. The PPR virus, which can cause significant economic loss to goat and sheep farming, is a particular concern due to its potential introduction into the Russian Federation.
