A team of researchers led by CONICET, Vivero Mercier Argentina, and supported by national and international entities, have sequenced the genome of Malbec, a significant advancement for the creation of high-quality Malbec grape varieties more resistant to climate change. The study, published in Horticulture Research, revealed over a quarter of the genome shows significant genetic variations, allowing for a detailed analysis of the transcriptome of four Malbec clones. The research also identified more than seventy thousand genes in the Malbec genome, a tool to understand the biology of the variety in the context of climate change. The public-private collaboration is crucial for the Mercier Group, allowing for a constant innovation program and access to the latest research in the industry.
