The Unió de Pagesos farming union has called on the Generalitat of Catalonia to implement a reconversion plan to aid farmers hit by the 2023 drought, which has severely affected sweet fruit trees, nuts, and vineyards. This plan seeks to subsidize 80% of the costs for starting up, new planting, and the unproductive period of the plantations, adhering to Community state aid regulations. The union's demands include more flexible and increased aid for replanting vineyards and support for converting hazelnut and almond plantations in Riudecañas. The drought has particularly damaged agricultural areas relying on the Guiamets, Margalef de Montsant, and Riudecañas reservoirs, impacting a broad range of crops.
