A study aimed at enhancing the production of maqui, a superfood, is underway in southern Chile due to the crop's increasing demand and low yield. The research, supported by the Foundation for Agrarian Innovation (FIA), has identified the need for advanced technologies to improve the productive potential of maqui orchards and stabilize yields. The project has identified six critical factors for successful maqui cultivation, including the need to choose the most adapted ecotype, efficient water irrigation, and correcting phosphorus levels in soil. The project also emphasizes the importance of healthy nursery plants and nutritional conditioning of soil for organic production.
