In a transcendental step towards environmental sustainability and the country's agricultural development, Peru's first biochar production plant was inaugurated. Located in the populated center of Jíbito, district and province of Sullana, Piura region, this plant represents an investment of $3 million and marks a milestone in the country's circular economy. The plant will have an initial capacity to process 40,000 tons of agricultural waste annually, primarily sugarcane husks. From this input, up to 10,000 tons of biochar will be produced annually, a key material for soil regeneration and permanent carbon capture. This initiative is driven by Inspiratus Technologies, with the support of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the organization Peru Just and Organic (PJO), which provide technical knowledge and strengthen its social and environmental approach. Biochar—also known as biocarbon—is a natural product obtained through pyrolysis, a process that ...
