From July 15 to July 31, a detailed inspection of the summer food chain, with a particular focus on watermelon sales, was conducted by fruit and vegetable quality inspectors across the country. The inspection covered various venues including producers, retail and wholesale outlets, markets, and roadside sales points. A total of 268 watermelon distributors were visited, and 311 product batches were examined, the majority of which met quality standards and were traceable. However, 16 items were found to have issues such as marking errors, unknown origin, and hygiene violations, leading to fines and the removal of certain products. An investigation into the import of Romanian melons at border entry points also did not uncover any violations. This inspection is part of a larger series, which will also cover grilled cheeses and plant protection agents in the future.
