Mexico: They present genetically improved forage oats for livestock

Midagri and INIA presented yesterday in Cajamarca the new forage oats 909 KATEKYL, genetically improved for different types of livestock. This new variety of fodder oats, due to its high quality, has been projected to increase the economic profitability of small and medium-sized farmers in our country by 183%. This new cultivar, developed by MIDAGRI through the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), offers the producer a yield of 61 tons per hectare of green fodder and one thousand kilos per hectare of seeds, which will benefit the productive yield in order to feed different types of livestock. In addition, due to its good genetic composition, INIA 909 KATEKYL has a good resistance to the attack of flying smut, puccinia coronata and puccinia graminis, the main vectors that generate pests and diseases that cause great losses in this crop.
