A partnership has been formed between the Pan American Center for Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health (Panaftosa) of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), and regional representatives to make South America free of foot-and-mouth disease. The goal is to certify Venezuela as a disease-free country by 2025 through systematic vaccination. This will allow the region to achieve international recognition as foot-and-mouth disease-free, with benefits for health, commerce, and social aspects. Venezuela presented its Foot-and-Mouth Disease Program and progress in animal vaccination at a recent meeting.
