They seek to eradicate foot-and-mouth disease from South America

On April 28, the Pan American Center for Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health (Panaftosa) of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), together with representatives of countries in the region, signed the articulation of a work plan to make South America free of foot-and-mouth disease. The international organization promotes the certification of Venezuela as a country free of the disease with vaccination by 2025, since it is the last country in the region that has yet to achieve free status, which prevents the total eradication of the infection in South America. The signing took place at a meeting in Rio de Janeiro promoted by PAHO through Panaftosa, which coordinates efforts in the region to eradicate foot-and-mouth disease.
