Despite the pandemic, Mexico's agricultural sector has seen growth with a surplus in the agri-food trade balance and increased exports, according to Secretary Víctor Villalobos Arámbula. The Promotion of Agriculture, Livestock, Fishing and Aquaculture (Bienpesca) program has also supported small fish and aquaculture producers, benefiting over 193,000 producers and workers. The sector has continued to operate at similar production levels to 2019, with over 800,000 tons produced in the first half of the year. The Bienpesca program aims to support smaller-scale producers and has increased support to indigenous fishermen communities.
