On average across the country, this summer saw barely half the usual amount of precipitation. Meteorologists provide good news regarding the continuation.
This summer was also drought-stricken, with most of the crops suffering from the dryness and heat. There were no complaints about the autumn cereals, but the yields of sunflower and corn fell short of expectations. According to HungaroMet, the average temperature of the summer of 2025 exceeded the 1991–2020 climatic norm by 1.2 degrees Celsius, with the average temperature across the country reaching 22.1 degrees Celsius.
All three months were warmer than usual, but what was more concerning was that the seasonal amount of precipitation was significantly below the long-term average both nationally and locally. June proved to be the driest since 1901, with 17 percent less rain than normal in July and 24 percent less in August.
The average summer precipitation across the country was 116 mm, which was almost 90 mm below the long-term value from 1991–2020.
