In 2020, Hungary harvested 86.1 thousand tons of peppers from 1.52 thousand hectares. The green pepper export surplus fell by 8% to HUF 3.47 billion in the first nine months of 2021, despite a 9% rise in exports to 17.2 thousand tons. The largest market was Germany, with an increase of 7% to 11.1 thousand tons, while exports to the Czech Republic and Slovakia surged by 36% and 93% respectively. Importes of fresh green peppers rose by 26% to 10,000 tons, primarily from Spain. The price of domestically grown peppers for filling decreased by 13% to HUF 452 / kg, and the price of larger peppers by 5% to HUF 641 / kg.
