Russia is forecasting the lowest buckwheat gross harvest since the beginning of the 21st century, which is already causing concern among market participants and consumers. This is reported by UkrAgroConsult. Analysts note that the situation is repeating the crisis of 2014, when, due to reduced areas and a weak harvest, buckwheat prices doubled, and trading networks introduced sales limits. This year, farmers have reduced the sown areas by approximately 32%, which, in conditions of unstable weather, creates the prerequisites for a deficit. The reduction in sowings was a consequence of low procurement prices in previous seasons, when it was unprofitable for producers to sow buckwheat. Now, with areas reduced to a critical minimum, the country risks facing a shortage of this crop, which traditionally is part of the diet of most of the population.
