The total volume of citrus fruit production in the EU, non-EU Mediterranean countries and the USA is expected to decrease this year (2024/2025). The World Citrus Organization (WCO) has released its annual Northern Hemisphere forecast for the upcoming citrus season, predicting a drop in overall volume compared to last year. Citrus production is estimated at just under 27.3 million. tons, which represents a decrease of 8.73% compared to the previous season. Spain's citrus production is expected to be down 3.3% on previous seasons to 6.18 million tonnes, with lemons down 21.01% from last year's record year. The dramatic weather events in Spain "are not expected to have a significant impact on overall supply", which remains as forecast, the agency noted.
